Photography Workshop

This last Saturday I was so lucky to attend a photography workshop by Jessica Downey! Her photos are amazing, so light and beautiful, I really, really LOVE her style. Plus, after spending the day with her, it turns out not only is she uber talented but extremely nice and a very good teacher. I learned SO much about my new camera and how to use it properly.

The info she taught me is now lodged in my brain, it is applying it while taking the pictures that is the tricky part. I am excited to share all the pics I shot at the workshop, and to document them on my blog. Then as I practice, and practice, and practice, and hopefully {fingers crossed} improve, then I can look back and see the improvement! That’s the plan anyway!:)

Jessica had all these super fun things set up for us to practice our newly made picture taking skills on.

In the shot above I was practicing with focus. Really fun photo props huh?

Don’t these cupcakes just look good enough to eat…..wait….I did EAT them! After I took their picture of course! They were delicious, gourmet, cupcake goodness. The frosting even had a glitter, sparkle, shimmer sprinkled on the top. I am convinced that the sparkle was the reason they tasted so amazing. I DO NOT want to ever know how many calories each one was. In this case, ignorance definitely is bliss. And oh it was blissful!

At the end of the workshop, Jessica had this truly incredible farmers market all set up for us in the middle of an alfalfa field. The set was so amazing. Every detail was so cute.  The kids that showed up and allowed us to snap, snap, snap our camera’s at them were so well behaved. Plus they are pretty stinkin’ cute. A definite bonus. Aren’t they sweet? Isn’t this set amazing?

I wish that the pictures I took of each individual piece of the set turned out better, but alas, I am still very much a novice and to put it bluntly…most of the pictures I did take were just plain BAD! But, a few of the several hundred I snapped turned out pretty ok.

It was seriously so much fun, I kind of felt like a real photographer. That is until I stopped and looked at the photos I took. Then I was reminded that I have A LOT of work to do to get better!

It truly was such an enjoyable day full of learning, using my fun new camera, and meeting new friends. I am so glad that I took this workshop. If any of you live in the Phoenix area, and have a DSLR that you want to learn to use. You should definitely consider it. It was awesome!
