Happy Belated Halloween

Halloween-32turns-2.jpg-8

Happy belated Halloween! Ok, let’s face it, Halloween is NOT my favorite holiday. I am not saying that I am a Halloween grinch….just that it isn’t my favorite. I don’t like to carve pumpkins, WHAT you say?? Yes, it is not my thing. I don’t like the mess, I don’t like that they rot in a few days. My kids will probably be scarred for life since I deprive them of this experience year after year. I avoid pumpkin carving like the plague. This year I dodged the bullet by handing my girls colored sharpies and letting them draw faces on their pumpkins…..mom of the year right?!? This is a serious confession Continue reading

We Go Together Like Peanut Butter & Jelly – Day 8

Tana1

We have really been struggling lately with our oldest Tana. She is having a hard time with her behavior at school and at home. I love her to bits (she is an amazing girl), but she seems to be in trouble more often than not lately. It is hard, as her parents, to feel like we are constantly coming down on her with a punishment or a correction or a re-direction. It is difficult as a parent to make sure there are enough positive moments in the day with your kids. I forget how many positive memories it takes to make up for a negative one, but it is definitely not 1 for 1. I am working hard lately to create positive moments with Tana and to remind her that as her Mom I love her and I think she is wonderful

Summer Reading Loss

summerreadingloss32turns

I don’t know about you other momma’s out there, but I always worry a bit about summer and my kids forgetting things they learned during the school year. Their teachers (and me!) worked so hard all school year to teach them new things,  and we did lots of homework to try and glue the learning into their brains and then the long days of summer come along and you just pray they don’t forget it all!

I was reading online and was shocked by the following quote!

“The few months (summer months) of loss in reading skills compounds over the years; by the time children reach middle school, those who haven’t read during the summers may have lost as much as two years worth of achievement.

Agh! That is scary! It is so important to keep our kids reading and thinking all summer long, here is what we are doing at our house to prevent the summer reading slide!!

Summer Media Bucks

5MediaBuckscropped

Ok, so I had BIG plans this Summer to finally put my kids chore chart (that took me forever to make!!) to good use! The dreams were beautiful in my head, they went something like this: children happily doing their chores and smiling as they finish them and are rewarded with time on their electronic devices (computer, wii, netflix, etc) CRASH, the sound of my dreams NOT coming true and we are only TWO weeks into summer vacation! Agh!

I don’t know about you, but I HATE how much time my kids can and want to spend on games and shows!!! If I let them they would turn into electronic robots with bloodshot eyes and mushy brains who never looked up from their devices! Ugh! Seriously, how to control it? It is so easy to let them play their video games and computer games and indulge them in their tv watching because it gives me my kid free time I desperately crave during the endless hours of summer.

Let Me Count the Ways..

2102fthr32turns

This post is dedicated to my husband Brad. Today is Father’s Day and this post is a list of reasons why he is awesome and perfect for me and our girls. Now I didn’t say he is perfect, no one is perfect, Brad will be the first one to tell he is not perfect; but he IS perfect for our family.

Brad will not like this post because it is all about him and because it is not written with the intent of attracting attention from the blogosphere to grow my blog. Brad will like this post also because it is all about him and because it tells a story of why he is such an amazing dad and shows how much he is loved by his girls.

This Father’s Day Brad is in Kansas on a business trip. Bummer! So….since he is gone out of town and we can’t give him a real hug, this post is a “computer hug” through the internet. We love you babe, we think you are perfect! Why…well let me count the ways. Commence the trip through memory lane.
